Trieste offers unique architecture and sights. The Piazza Dell ' Unità is an absolute must, Europe's largest square almost to the sea surrounded by stately neo-classical buildings. From the square you can towards old town to the Opera House and the hills of S. Giusto. Here lies the oldest part of the city with Roman ruins and the symbol of Trieste: the Cathedral of San Giusto with floor mosaic from the 5th century.

You can reach the sea along Grignano from Trieste and the famous Miramare Castle, built in 1860 by Ferdinand Maximilian of Austria the brother of the emperor. The Castle and the Park are a real attraction on the cliffs above the sea.

It is the Grotta Gigante, the "largest tourist cave in the world" in the neighbouring municipality of Sgonico worth a trip.

Trieste is home to two well-known observatories for astronomy and Geophysics, as well as a very interesting scientific Museum, the "Science Centre Immaginario scientifico", with Planetarium and many interactive and multimedia content.

Trieste offers also many different possibilities to discover the Italian and local-specific cuisine. Italian, Slovenian and Austrian specialities are cheap in the different restaurants and cafes.

Also the local wine is particularly interesting, the area around Trieste awarded the quality seal DOC produced the "Carso Terrano". Since 1986, there is even the wine road "Strada del vino Terrano".
